Who has the most 3 pointers in a single season?

Without 3-pointers, hardly anyone can imagine modern basketball. In every game, almost every team attempts more than 30 3-point field goals and it is one of the most lethal weapons against opponents.

Which player has the most 3-pointers in a single season? During the 2015/2016 season, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors made 402 3-pointers. To this day, no one has managed to break Curry’s milestone. He has scored the most 3-pointers in a single season on numerous occasions.

Steph Curry is widely regarded as one of the greatest shooters of all time. He has contributed a lot to the Golden State Warriors and is a player with phenomenal shooting skills.

Basketball Has Changed – and Steph Has to Do a Lot with That

If you follow modern basketball even a little and are not stuck in the era of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, then you are clearly aware of how much the game has changed. Where is the tough game under the basket ?! Why are skinny guys running in the best NBA league now?

Stephen Curry has changed basketball that we knew in the past. Steph knew from an early age that he had to achieve a high level in basketball, as did his father, Dell Curry, who played for the Charlotte Hornets at the time in the NBA.

While being in the Golden State Warriors, Steph took the position of point guard and thereby removed the weight from Monta Ellis’s shoulders so that he would return to his position. After a while, in 2011, Ellis was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks for center Andrew Bogut. Initially, the Warriors offered in exchange for Bogut – Stephen Curry, however, the Bucks did not perceive this as an equivalent exchange, because Steph at that time was very injury-prone.

As a result, after the exchange of Mont Ellis, Stephen becomes the leader of the team, signing a new contract for $44 million for 4 years. “Warriors” were very risky, but we can certainly say that the risk was justified: in the new season, Steph got even better, and in the 2014/15 season, the Warriors, led by new coach Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry, become NBA champions at all, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James in the final.

3-point Shooting is Steph’s Trademark

Stephen Curry has always featured dribbling and 3-point shots, which he excelled at incredibly. It was he who began to throw 3-point shots more often with a good percentage of hits. And he shot them further and further from the 3-point arc! It was just incredible, it made other teams devote more time to training 3-point shots. The game has become even more dynamic and fast. Steph Curry and his teammate Klay Thompson, who is also a prominent 3-point shooter formed a duo known as the “Splash Brothers”, terrorizing opponents’ defence. Even without Klay Thompson, Curry did not stop. When he missed the majority of the 2019/2020 season because of the broker hand, he returned even stronger in the upcoming campaign, leading his team to the play-in tournament, which the Golden State Warriors lost to the Lakers.

2015-2016 Season Milestone

The 2015/16 season has been incredible for Stephen and the Warriors. The Warriors managed to break the regular season win-loss record previously held by the Chicago Bulls 1995/96 (72-10). Steph started hitting even more threes, scoring a record 402 threes in the season. Curry became the first unanimous MVP in NBA history, averaging 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists on a 50% field goal and 45% conversion from the 3-point line.

Steph Curry has become a leader of the most 3-pointers in a single season several times. James Harden has barely challenged him as well as other players like Paul George and Buddy Hield, however, it is Stephen Curry who can be called the best shooter of the last decade.

2021 and Still Going

Yes, it is already 2021 and a lot has changed, the previous Golden State Warriors squad, although they later won championships in 16/17 and 17/18 seasons. However, the fact that it was Stephen Curry who changed the attitude in basketball to 3-point shots cannot be cancelled, it is he who still sets records in three-point shots per game. Steph was not gifted with phenomenal physical abilities, was not highly acclaimed by the media, was often injured and did not have an easy pass to the league.

But the decisive factor was that he was able to adjust the game for himself, bringing victory to his team. Curry has perfected his game to the maximum, working on his strengths and weaknesses every day. Curry is also second in the all-time list of the most 3-pointers made and has a chance to surpass Ray Allen in the 2021/2022 season. Steph Curry has scored 10 or more 3-pointers in numerous matches and there are no borders for him when we talk about long-range shots.

Who was Close to Curry?

In the 2018/2019 season, James Harden came closer to breaking Curry’s record, making 378 3-pointers in a regular season, when he was still playing for the Houston Rockets. Before moving to the Brooklyn Nets, Harden was a unanimous leader of the Rockets and in 2018, he came closer to beating the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately, Chris Paul got injured and they failed to beat the Warriors.
