A basketball jersey can become symbolic of a person. When I was at school you could only pick the numbers between five and fifteen. Fifteen was my number and it has stuck with me ever since. In the NBA people can choose almost any number they want. Therefore, which NBA players wear the 99 Jersey in the 2019-20 NBA season?

Which NBA players wear the 99 Jersey in the 2019-20 NBA season? There are two players wearing the number 99 jersey in the 2019-20 NBA season. The recent addition to the Boston Celtics, Tacko Fall, wears number 99 and Jae Crowder of the Memphis Grizzlies also wears the number 99.

We have taken a look at why Tacko Fall and Jae Crowder why they wear the 99 jersey. We have also looked to see who has worn the 99 jersey in the past.

Tacko Fall

Tacko may have played the first half of he season in the NBA G League however, when he was given a chance to pick a shirt for the Boston Celtics he chose the 99 jersey. It is a coincidence that the shirt Tacko choose used to belong to Jae Crowder, the only other active player on this list to wear the 99 jersey, who last wore the 99 jerseyfor the Celtics. When fall was at the University of Miami he wore the 24 shirt number, he then went on to play in the NBA summer League and wore number 55. He was not immediately on Boston’s roster and had to spend a while playing for Red Maine Claws in the NBA G League and wearing shirt 99. However, Boston finally came calling and Tacko decided to choose number 99 as his short of choice. Only four Celtics prior to fall worse the 99 jersey, which makes it a unique number.

Jae Crowder

Jae Crowder wore number 32 in high school in honour of Magic Johnson. Crowder was with Dallas for the first years of his NBA career and wore the number 9 jersey. Crowder was then transferred from Dallas to the Celtics with Rondo going the other way. Rondo had worn the 9 shirt for the Celtics and Crowder didn’t want to wear the 9 shirt anymore. On the day of the transfer, Crowder was with his best friend who was wearing his high school shirt with 99 on the back. Crowder decided to wear 99 just like his best friend and it’s been with ever since. Jae Crowder has worn the 99 jersey from 2015 onwards.

How many NBA Players have worn the 99 Jersey?

Not many NBA players have worn the 99 Jersey. Prior to Jae Crowder there had only been five players to wear the number 99 shirt. Shaquille O’Neal at Mikans funeral

George Mikhan’s 99 jersey was honoured by the LA Lakers. This is due to Mikan playing for the Minneapolis Lakers rather than the LA Lakers and therefore, his 99 jersey wasn’t retired.

George Glamack

When George Glamack moved to the Indianapolis Jets in 1949, he adopted the 99 jersey for the season.

James

A basketball court was built in my local park and at 15 years of age I fell in love with basketball. A late joiner to the game, I have played every season since. Some Indiana friends bought me some Pacers gear for my 17th birthday, and I have supported them ever since (who wants to follow the crowd). I love American sports apparel and the presentation of sports, they do it so well (bar all the advert breaks).
