Brooklyn Nets Jersey Guide

The Brooklyn Nets didn’t exist in 2011. The Franchise had been around since the heyday of the ABA in 1967 – then known as the New Jersey Americans. In the decades since they have moved between New Jersey and Long Island before finally, in 2012 landing at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. While this move came amid huge fanfare, local boy come world megastar Jay-Z was involved, the branding was stripped back to black and white – a sleek modern look. Franchise legend Jason Kidd was at the helm of a team that was soon to boast stars such as Deron Williams, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. They looked set to take New York by storm. The Knicks who hadn’t won a title since 1973 were in danger of losing their place as owners of the Big Apple. The new kids were the talk of the town, dominating the cover of Sports Illustrated with their fresh, sleek looking Jersey’s.

Less than 2 years later Jay-Z would have sold up and moved on, not long after that Kidd was coaching the Bucks, Williams would be struggling to contribute on a week Cavs contender, KG would be retired and Pierce was soon to follow.

With the Knicks struggling to put a competitive side on the floor, the door is still open. In the summer of 2019 Superstars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durrant chose Brooklyn over the Knicks. Are we about to see the streets of New York flooded with Nets Jersey’s?

2019/20 Brooklyn Nets Jersey – Full Official Range

While the Association and Statement Jersey’s remain unchanged from last year and continue to reflect the stripped back Black/White style the Nets have adopted since arriving in Brooklyn in 2012 the 2019/20 Statement Jersey has been redesigned by Brooklyn based artist, Eric Hayes. 2019/20 Brooklyn Nets City Edition Jersey

Standing apart from these is the massively popular City Edition Jersey. After the success of last years “Notorious B.I.G” inspired version, black in colour with ‘Brooklyn’ splashed across the chest and the famous colours of Biggies Coogi sweater on the sides, there was a clamour for it to be released in white as well. Known as “Brooklyn Camo” the design is treasured by NBA and Biggie fans alike, as you can see below, they didn’t disappoint for 2019/20.

The 2019/20 Brooklyn Nets City Edition Jersey aside from being white also features some other notable changes. The Brooklyn text has been replaced by Bed-Stuy, a reference to Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant area where the man himself grew up. The text, like the statement jersey above, has been stylised by Eric Hayes to reflect the graffiti culture of Brooklyn.
